Silvio Molin Pradel

Arcangelo Molin Pradel from the Zoldo Valley (Belluno, Italy) emigrated to Transylvania in 1865 as a woodcutter. After the company went bankrupt, he moved to Vienna, working as a marble cutter and salami seller. In 1886, he returned to Vienna with Italians from Zoldo Valley and founded the Molin Pradel family's first ice cream production, now run by the 5th generation. Silvio Molin Pradel established a "Manifattura del Gelato" and a Gelato Museum in Vienna's Seestadt, popular for guided tours and school visits.

Gelateria Gamba

The native Milanese Mirko Gamba came to Vienna in 1998. He learned the artisanal craft of ice cream production from his mentor Michelangelo Corazza and took over the ice cream parlour founded as a family business in 1928. With his lemon ice cream, Gamba won at the Austrian Ice Cream Championship.

Over 50 years ago, Paolo Bortolotti came to Vienna and opened his first ice cream parlor on the Wiener Gürtel. Following his motto "better, unique, innovative," he expanded the traditional eight ice cream flavors each season with new varieties. Bortolotti was among the first to offer top Italian coffee and install heaters to extend the season. Today, he works successfully with young partners who share his passion for culinary uniqueness. Bortolotti now offers vegan ice cream made with top-quality olive oil, using seasonal local ingredients to support regional businesses and environmental protection.

At the end of the 19th century, Battista Alberti moved from Trentino in his capital Vienna (Austro-Hungarian Empire) as a scissor cutter. His son Giovanni apprenticed with a court confectioner and opened his first "Gefronenen Salon" in 1906. The gelateria is still family-run today. Carlo Alberti expanded the business, producing the first kosher ice cream due to proximity to the Jewish community. A rabbi ensured the machines and tools complied with strict kosher rules.

As early as 1907, the first street café opened in Vienna-Währing. Since 1988, the ice cream shop on Hernalser Hauptstraße has been run by Fausto and his wife Sonja Arnoldo, now in the fourth generation.
